The first half of 2018 has undoubtedly been a challenging one for London based candidates in the projects and change market, with a large number of contractors rolling off MiFID II programmes at the start of the year, the market is undoubtedly candidate heavy.
Time certainly flies – we’re already two months into 2018 and slowly but surely we are seeing more daylight with spring around the corner. It feels like only yesterday that the MiFID II deadline at the beginning of 2018 came into force – no doubt a relief for many working on and around it leading up to the new year. Last year was politically and economically a bit of a quagmire for the UK; the political hole it dug for itself seemed to deepen with a weakened Conservative Party and an EU that was reluctant to lay out its intentions.
After a busy 2017 at the Strategy, Projects and Change desk at Morgan McKinley, we are beginning to see the contract market heat up in financial services as we progress into the New Year. Instrumental in driving much of the project roles last year was the MiFID II programmes which saw a great deal of hiring in the regulatory space.
