Media Relations Manager - 6 months FTC

Role Description

Job Description

This post offers the successful applicant the opportunity to represent a Banking Group to external media stakeholders - including national newspapers, newswires and television broadcasters.

The role will be for six months on a contract - or on a seconded basis for existing LBG colleagues - and will proved cover for maternity leave.

The successful applicant will need to bring with them the drive, strategic thinking, calmness under pressure and expertise needed to work in the busy press office of a FTSE100 company in a highly-scrutinised sector. Moreover, you will need the ability, confidence and credibility to understand and process complex and sensitive issues that will potentially span the full business operations of the Group.

Given the media spotlight remains strongly on this sector, the postholder will need to demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with journalists whilst also forging effective relationships with internal stakeholders. In terms of the dynamic with internal stakeholders, the postholder's task will be to both provide them with counsel on the external environment and also involve them at the right time to build robust communications plans for external audiences.

Whilst banks continue to need to react to ongoing media interest in a number of live issues, there will also be scope for a growing proactive element to the postholder's workload. This includes initiatives designed to raise stakeholder awareness of the Group's strategy and priorities, as part of the division's wider responsibility to manage reputational risks and opportunities effectively. On all these fronts, the press office works closely with Internal Communications and Social Media colleagues to provide an integrated communications service.

The postholder will be part of a busy press office that needs to show both forward thinking and quick reactions. The postholder will have areas where they will be the lead person, whilst also being available to help out on issues right across the team - sometimes at short notice. The postholder will need to be a team player, who delivers and takes initiative, and shows the flexibility needed to handle this role. This is a fast paced, pressured but rewarding role.
