The secrets to success for jobseekers and employers in Office Support

Companies that fail to offer strong benefits packages and staff incentives to Office Support professionals have seen a noticeable increase in employee turnover.

Employer trends seen across Office Support at the start of 2019

Organisations have to offer an increased level of flexibility to their employees; working from home and flexible daily hours are expected. This is noticeable in London, as well as away from the capital in the Home Counties. Improved benefits packages and staff incentives have also been a trend, with increased holiday allowance and private healthcare now essentially the norm and other more ‘outside the box’ options such as allowing pets in the office on offer.

This said, not all firms provide these packages and as a result have seen a noticeably increased level of employee turnover. Those companies with impressive retention rates offer vast benefits, strong remuneration and clear internal promotion opportunities that all ensure longevity of staff.

What have professionals done to succeed in their roles?

Consistent with what was seen last year, and over preceding years, strong customer services experience is a necessity. International exposure is frequently required for office support professionals working in London, displaying the ability to work with people based in different time zones. The traditional 1:1 or 1:2 PA type roles are no longer seen, nowadays they have to possess extensive experience of supporting a large team or numerous senior level employees.

European language skills, namely French and German, remain an added bonus for personal or executive assistant jobs and if they have been studied to a degree level, that individual will be able to elevate their career even further.

What has influenced Office Support recruitment?

As we have mentioned in previous updates, Brexit is yet to have any real negative influences on the recruitment of office support professionals. Despite all the uncertainty influencing most people’s vision of the world, it is very much business as usual for the recruitment of office support and secretarial professionals.
