Overall, 2018 saw an increase in job seekers looking for and actively applying for roles. This didn’t signal a switch to a buyer’s market - talent remained king, in short supply and fiercely contested for.
This said, the UK remained a major financial centre of excellence in 2018 this is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, even after Brexit.
It is practically impossible to predict what 2019 will mean for the UK’s recruitment landscape. The processes of obtaining working visas is still unclear so the flow of overseas talent is expected to be stemmed even further, with many industries anticipating a drastic skills shortage. Regardless of the restricted access to talent, organisations will still need to hire professionals in order to accommodate for the inevitable changes that will come to light.
