Mixture of Finance and HR roles available across Thames Valley so far in 2019

The recruitment market in the Thames Valley has become largely candidate led, resulting in hiring organisations having to pay above the odds to secure top finance and HR talent.

What has the hiring landscape been like in the Thames Valley over the first half of 2019?

The market has varied incredibly in the Thames Valley so far this year, with clients recruiting at both junior and senior levels in Human Resources and Accounting & Finance. 

The first half of 2019 has been incredibly different for finance recruitment compared to usual; we normally recruit a lot of technical finance roles at the start of the year, but this has completely changed and there have been a mixture of roles at all different levels. HR has been similar, with many more specialist roles being seen as opposed to generalist HR opportunities. 

Brexit does seem to be playing a part in some cases, affecting those companies with a presence in Europe, or those with clients based across the continent.

How to keep the workforce motivated and attract new employees

As seems to be consistent up and down the UK, as well as across most professions, candidates in the Thames Valley area are looking for flexible working over any other benefits. As the market has shifted to primarily candidate led, businesses are having to pay higher base salaries if they want to secure the top talent.

From the other side, numerous organisations are looking for women professionals to fill senior level roles in an attempt to reduce the gender pay gap. This is particularly important in finance, which is historically male dominated at the top.

What has made professionals based in Thames Valley successful?

Qualifications remain incredibly important, whether that is the CIPD qualification for HR professionals or any of ACA, ACCA or CIMA in the Accounting & Finance space. These can be the deciding factor for candidates at the interview stage, whilst some clients won’t even look at an applicant if they don’t have the relevant qualifications, especially for ACA, ACCA or CIMA jobs. 

There have been a few key things hiring managers have looked for: 

  • In finance, the ability to build finance models from scratch
  • In HR, experience working with EMEA

How can job seekers stay motivated over the slower summer months?

Top of the list is to make sure you stay in contact with your recruitment consultant, giving them feedback immediately after the interview and showing your interest straight away by responding as quickly as possible. After this, be patient; good things come to those who wait!
