In April this year, Morgan McKinley held its first UK Women in Leadership event, inviting 100 people to debate and discuss the challenges women face in securing senior leadership positions today.
We were very lucky to have Fiona Hathorn - MD Women on Boards. Fiona Macaulay - IT Director Mars, Karen O’Flaherty – COO Morgan McKinley Ireland and Moira Robertson – CFO GE Energy who shared their own experiences in reaching the top as well how they have championed Diversity programmes in their own organisations.
The 5 key themes that arose throughout the day were:
1. How Do We Get Men Involved?
2. How to Establish a Women’s Network
3. Women Leaving the Workplace
4. Gender Pay Gap Reporting
5. Overcoming Unconscious Bias
In the White Paper we discuss the above challenges and also the possible solutions provided by the panel and also audience members from businesses such as Shell, Centrica, O2 and Mazars.
Improved diversity across gender and racial groups is tangibly linked to improving profitability. According to McKinsey:
“Companies in the top quartile for gender diversity were 15% more likely to have financial returns that were above their national industry median. And the companies in the top quartiles for racial /ethnic diversity were 35% more likely to have finance returns above their national industry median”
