Christmas will be over soon, but it’s never too soon to plan ahead

I love this festive season.  Christmas is about the warmth and cheer among friends and family in the wintery cold, great feasts and parties (with plenty of stuffing), and of course, all those amazing presents!

Christmas and New Year is not just about having fun, but to celebrate change and refresh yourself. So, with January lurking around the corner we should all start to think long and hard about goals and resolutions. Whether it’s to lose a few pounds, find a new job and step up the corporate ladder or because you need a change from your current role, January is a time when everyone starts searching for a new job. So why not get a head start and give your CV a makeover?

What should you bear in mind before sending out your CV?

  • Make sure it is up-to-date and accurate – check that your dates of employment are in chronological order and that there are no gaps
  • Don’t be afraid to bullet point your responsibilities within your roles
  • Education and qualifications - State your degree subject and university, plus A levels and GCSEs or equivalents
  • Presentation should be easy on the eye and legible – Use Arial 11 as the recommended font and size
  • Be prepared to answer the dreaded ‘why’ question – plan responses that relate to a variety of questions
  • Be confident and clear of what it is you want in your next role
  • Try to keep it to one page if you can, certainly no more than two.

Remember to be proactive in your searches, by getting ahead of the crowd, to help reach your long-term goals.
