2014: Living in the Shadow of Regulation?

On Thursday, 27th March the Morgan McKinley London office held a dynamic panel discussion event.

Titled ‘2014: Living in the Shadow of Regulation?', the evening looked at how the financial crisis and subsequent regulation and rule-making is affecting the banking and financial services industry, as well as its consumers, and how this may develop over the coming year. Our special guest panellists for the evening were (L-R above):

  • Iain Coke -  Head of the Financial Services Faculty at the ICAEW
  • Neeraj Kapur - Chief Financial Officer, Secure Trust Bank
  • Eric Bigham - Founder & Managing Director of Bigham Consulting

A big thank you to all three for your involvement in making the evening such a success.

Attendees came from Compliance, Risk, Change Management, Accounting and Senior Finance backgrounds, all adding their own perspectives and experiences to the issues highlighted which resulted in a highly engaging and interactive session.

With such a wealth of opinions and anecdotes we touched upon topics such as the ‘MBAisation’ of the financial world, shadow banking and the growth of peer-to-peer lending, the ‘micro-expert’ phenomenon and whether regulatory bodies are now reacting proactively, or reactively still, to the next perceived crisis forecast within the global bonds market.

To accompany the event, speaker Eric Bigham produced a white paper, a hard copy of which was given to attendees. Over the coming weeks we will be issuing a new section each week covering:

Background to the Crisis
The Crash
The Regulatory Reform
The Solutions
Basic Approach
