Getting Paid
There are three main payment structures available to you. As a temporary or interim worker you can be paid either by PAYE (Pay As You Earn) or via your own limited company on an hourly or daily basis – it makes no difference to us. If you are employed on a fixed term contract, it is most likely you will be paid a monthly pro-rata salary, direct from our client.
PAYE
This is the traditional method of payment for an hourly paid temporary worker. Once we have secured you an assignment and agreed an hourly rate, all you need to do is send your bank details to our Payroll department and we will do the rest!
Ltd. Company
If you are planning on temping for a long period of time or are in a senior position where you have expenses, it may be beneficial to set up a limited company. You can be paid via a limited company on an hourly or daily rate basis. For more information on setting up a limited company see www.hmrc.gov.uk and www.businesslink.gov.uk. Once set up, to avoid any delay in payment, you will need to submit your ltd. company details, bank account details, Certificate of Incorporation, VAT Registration and Professional Indemnity Insurance to your consultant before your assignment starts.
Making Tax Payments in Temporary Employment
You pay tax through Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance (NI), which are deducted automatically from your pay every week. If you are not from the UK and this is your first time working in the country, you will need to register for a National Insurance number before you commence temporary employment. You can find out more about this via the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) www.dwp.gov.uk.
Even though you may only be in a temporary position for a few days, it's still vital that you maintain your tax and National Insurance payments. Fortunately, the recruitment specialists at Morgan McKinley can make this easy for you. We'll arrange your tax and NI payments for you, the details of which will be reflected on your weekly pay slip.
