This leading financial services business currently undergoing a period of rapid expansion is seeking to hire a high calibre VAT Accountant to join their Surrey-based in house tax team. Working closely alongside the Group Indirect Tax Manager you will focus on controlling and managing the group's indirect tax affairs. On a day to day basis this involves: review of controls and processes; advising/training key staff on VAT related issues; production of timely and accurate VAT returns and responding to technical queries from tax authorities. You will be a qualified accountant, tax advisor or equivalent with an excellent track record within indirect taxation, strong organisational skills and outstanding interpersonal skills. As this is a newly-created opportunity it offers an exciting chance to move into a large, established financial services group and the chance to make a name for yourself within the business from day one.

In this challenging and interesting role you will have responsibility for overseeing local VAT and Indirect Tax compliance in Europe. The business has interests in most European jurisdictions, therefore you will have a broad understanding of EU Indirect Tax matters.
The role will include, but is not limited to:
- Researching tax law questions that arise, developing interpretations/ positions most favourable to the business.
- Keeping up to date with new and proposed legislation, regulations, rulings and legal decisions.
- Working to resolve outstanding indirect tax audits
- Assist with and manage in-house compliance for VAT and Indirect taxes
This is a high profile role within the organisation, therefore you will ideally be:
- Professionally qualified in indirect taxes with a major accountancy firm
- Knowledgable on UK and European indirect tax
- Familiar with EU tax directives
- Be able to identify, analyse and prioritise complex issues

You will be working within a virtual, international services business that is becoming increasingly complex and which has particular challenges of the virtual management environment versus the cross border legal entitiy environment via which tax sensitive transactions are executed.
We are looking for very commercially focused VAT advisory candidates who can support this type of business, spending most of their time understanding customer propositions and how these are proposed to be executed through central companies, in-market operating companies and via new subsdiaries or other arrangements in countries where the business has no presence. You will be working for a truly global business hence many challenging tax jurisdictions are in scope and there is little or no in-house support on which to call.
