Job Description

This international banking group is currently looking for a senior VAT specialist to join their Group Tax team in a newly created position. You will work on all matters relating to the indirect tax affairs of the group, with a particular focus on delivering indirect tax advice to the front office, including product / transaction review / approval and general group indirect tax planning work.

Roles/Responsibilities

Front Office Support

• Providing technical support and advice to the front office on UK VAT and any international indirect taxes relevant to products/transactions and businesses.
• Liaising with external advisors where required, challenging that advice where necessary and obtaining opinions in line with Group Tax risk policies where relevant.
• Reviewing and providing indirect tax sign-off for all New Product and Structured Transaction Proposals.

Tax planning:
• Advising on and devising indirect tax mitigation strategies for the group.
• Reviewing and advising on all the indirect tax aspects of corporate transactions.
• Implementing and developing effective indirect tax risk management and control processes in relation to products / transactions, businesses and legal entity structures.
• Advising on the indirect tax aspects associated with the transfer pricing arrangements .
• Ad-hoc project work

Skills/Experience

You should have a strong background in financial services indirect tax and ideally be working (or have worked) in the in-house tax department of a bank or similar institution.

 

Educations/Qualifications

The candidate should be appropriately qualified (ATII / CTA or equivalent) and should have relevant experience. Strong numeracy, accountancy and computer skills will be required.

Personal Attributes

This candidate will be required to interact on a daily basis with different areas of the bank, and will need excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to develop good working relationships. The candidate should be capable of functioning both autonomously - working largely under their own supervision - and within a team. Good organisational skills are therefore also essential.
